Who's behind this podcast?
We’re Elizabeth + Jessica, co-hosts and co-creators of the What It’s Like podcast.
We’re creative professionals, entrepreneurs, adventurers, storytellers, and curious minds. By day, we co-own a web design & development agency. By night (well, Saturday afternoons, really), we co-host this podcast.
What's the idea behind the show?
Oftentimes peoples’ stories are told in third-person, by reporters with an agenda, or an opinion, or a pre-defined narrative. Even the most objectively told accounts of the lives of others can’t compare to hearing a first person account of a portion of their own life story.
This podcast is our attempt at giving individuals the opportunity to tell their stories their way.
As humanists, and human beings, we feel no time is better than the present to find ways in which we can bring people from all walks of life together, and help us all develop a bit more compassion and empathy towards one another.
We also know what it’s like to feel alone, different, misunderstood, or stuck in a particular circumstance. Our hope is that this podcast changes at least one person’s life for the better.
How can I contribute or participate?
Do you edit episodes to craft the narrative in a particular fashion, or is this all one take?
We will only edit episodes in the rare occasion that something that is said is deemed extremely inappropriate, and in those instances, we will make note of such edits on the podcasts’s website. We don’t anticipate having to do this, but you never know. We appreciate our guests sharing their time and their experiences with us, and hope that each episode adds something to your perspective.
Where do you find guests? Can I be a guest?
We are constantly looking for new guests! If you have a story to tell, we’d love to have you on the show. Please fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page (or any other page on this site), or contact us at email@example.com, and we will be in touch!
We currently find most guests via online forums/sources, or via referrals from people we know personally – but we are absolutely looking to expand our reach.
I’m hearing impaired; how can I enjoy the podcast?
We have a transcription compiled for each and every episode! You can find each episode’s corresponding transcription on it’s page on our website (see the Episodes page for more).
We ensure the transcription is ready to go every Saturday afternoon (when the show is uploaded for our Patreon patrons), so that hearing-impaired patrons may enjoy it on the Patrons page as well.
Why is the show on Patreon?
We are big fans of Patreon as a platform, and really appreciate how it allows artists and creators to make a living, while giving fans an affordable way to support entertainers they enjoy. We also believe that being visible on Patreon will help us expand our reach by finding new listeners (and guests!), as well as receiving the support we need to continue to grow this show and improve upon it week after week.
Why should I become a patron?
Thank you for considering being a Patreon patron of What It’s Like! We work hard to produce enjoyable and thought-provoking content, and appreciate anyone who wants to contribute to our ongoing efforts to grow and improve upon the show!
A few good reasons to support the show:
- A percentage of all contributions are donated to charitable causes on a monthly basis (see our Patrons page for more on this),
- The support allow us to spend more time planning the show and finding great, interesting guests,
- The support allows us to invest in marketing the show – increasing the number of lives it could potentially have a positive affect on,
- Because you enjoy the show, or
- Because you think we’re onto something great here, and you want to be a part of it!
I’m a patron - how do I access my benefits?
Once you’ve completed the process of pledging on Patreon, you can head over to our Patrons page, and click the button that reads Unlock With Patreon to access your exclusive content! If for any reason you are having trouble logging in, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we’ll get back to your promptly and help you figure this out!
I voted on an episode topic and it won - why hasn’t that episode’s topic been published yet?
It’s possible that we’re still finding the right guest for that particular episode, or working to accommodate a planned guest’s schedule. Please contact us at email@example.com if you have a specific concern, or would like further information on when to anticipate an upcoming episode’s release.
